Gylfi Sigurdsson may not be playing well for Everton at the moment, but the former Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder is certainly doing the job for Iceland.
Sigurdsson scored for Iceland against Kosovo on Monday evening. The 28-year-old scored in the 40th minute to help Heimir Hallgrimsson’s team win 2-0.
The victory over Kosovo saw Iceland book their place in the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia next summer.
Iceland have won 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification – UEFA Group I with 22 points from 10 matches, picking up two more points than Croatia, who have ended up second in the group.
Sigurdsson scored as many as four goals for Iceland in their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The former Tottenham attacking midfielder, though, has failed to score in the Premier League for Everton so far this season.
The 28-year-old, who joined the Toffees from Premier League rivals Swansea in the summer transfer window, has not provided an assist in the league this campaign either.
Everton fans, though, do not appear to be losing patience with Sigurdsson and want manager Ronald Koeman to play him in his best position, as the following messages on social networking site Twitter suggest.
Sigurdsson scores but can't score for us...— James Evans E (@Efc12Evans) October 9, 2017
Gylfi Sigurdsson with a goal and an assist tonight so far. Amazing what can happen when you play a No10 in the Number 10 position. #EFC— Jamie Pinder (@JamiePinder) October 9, 2017
I am worried about him getting played out of position— Mark Murphy (@Mark56692811) October 8, 2017
FFS, he had little or know pre season and has still to find his way into the best position in a team lacking confidence. Focus on facts— Vince Ion (@Vincetheblue) October 8, 2017

In fairness the only reason why Siggs is being pushed so fair over to the left is because Wayne Rooney is in the middle ..set the man free— Matt Smyth (@smythy2) October 9, 2017
