Summer signings from Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are amongst the contenders.

With the international break giving clubs the chance to take stock of their seasons so far, HITC Sport is conducting a poll of which summer signing has been the best performing so far, with players from Leeds, Aston Villa, Wolves and Nottingham Forest amongst the contenders.

So before you get the chance to vote, here is a look at the full list of contenders…

Aston Villa

Few deals in the Championship grabbed quite as much attention as John Terry‘s move to Villa Park following the end of his long association with Chelsea. Terry has done well with the Villains, and they have kept five clean sheets in their last six league games to bounce back from a slow start. The fact that he was signed on a free makes the deal particularly brilliant. Meanwhile, another inspired deal involving Villa was the £1 million they spent on Ahmed Elmohamady (via Express and Star). The Egyptian already boasts a number of assists, and it appears that that transfer is on its way to looking to be an absolute steal for Steve Bruce’s men.

Cardiff City

When Cardiff signed Nathaniel Mendez-Laing on a free transfer from Rochdale (via BBC Sport), few would have expected him to play such an important role in guiding Neil Warnock’s men to the summit of the Championship. The winger has already scored four league goals and contributed two assists for the Bluebirds, so is undoubtedly a sensational signing.

Ipswich Town

After the pair endured difficult years with Rangers, Ipswich fans would have been forgiven for thinking that Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner could prove extremely uninspired signings, but the pair have been excellent for the Tractor Boys. Waghorn has scored six in the league, while Garner has scored four, while they have also managed two assists each.

Leeds United

Leeds made a number of summer signings and the majority have settled in extremely well. The best performing however, is surely Samuel Saiz. The Spanish playmaker has six goals in all competitions and often looks to be the Whites’ most dangerous player. Meanwhile, Pierre-Michel Lasogga has also been an excellent signing on loan, with three goals and two assists coming in his first five appearances for the club.

While Britt Assombalonga‘s form is not sensational, he arguably deserves plenty of praise for the way that he has handled the burden of being a £15 million player (via BBC Sport). His return of five goals in 11 games hints that there is plenty to come from the former Forest man.

Nottingham Forest

After selling Assombalonga, Forest fans would have been forgiven for not expecting Daryl Murphy to fill the void left behind. But he certainly has. The 34-year-old has scored six already this term to prove his critics wrong. Meanwhile, Barrie McKay has been excellent on the wing for a Forest side that are extremely exciting to watch going forward, scoring twice and adding four assists.

By the time the season concludes, it would be no surprise to see Ruben Neves named as one of the signings of the season, but he cost a huge amount of money and has been somewhat overshadowed by Diogo Jota so far, who has six goals already for Wolves. Given that he is currently on loan, his signing must be one of the bargains of the window. Meanwhile, Leo Bonatini has scored four and bagged four assists which means that he has been directly involved in more goals than any of his Wolves teammates.
