Tottenham Hotspur were linked to Allan Saint-Maximin in the summer.

Allan Saint-Maximin continued his terrific season for Nice by scoring an outstanding goal in the Europa League.

The 20-year-old winger ran from his own half against Vitesse Arnhem before firing the ball into the net to help earn his side a 3-0 victory.

French broadcaster TF1 reported in June that Tottenham Hotspur were monitoring the youngster, who was at Monaco and spent last season on loan at Bastia.

Nice went on to win the race for his signature, and he looks to be a shrewd buy.

Saint-Maximin had three shots at goal in the 3-0 win, and now has two goals in two Europa League matches.

The youngster had a modest return at Bastia last season, but already looks like a smart buy for Nice, who Monaco may regret letting go on the cheap.

Tottenham have swing and missed on two Ligue 1 wingers in recent seasons, Clinton N’Jie and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.

You almost can’t blame them then, for stepping aside on Saint-Maximin.

But their new caution may have seen them miss out on a gem, who last night showed more finishing ability than N’Koudou has in more than a year so far at Spurs.
