Sunderland fans seem to have run out of patience with long-serving midfielder Lee Cattermole after his latest performance against Ipswich Town.

Cattermole has often been credited by Sunderland supporters for his whole-hearted performances, but he was well off the pace at Portman Road last night, as the Black Cats fell to a 5-2 defeat.

Sunderland were thoroughly outplayed by the Tractor Boys, on a humiliating night for Simon Grayson’s side.

Very few Sunderland players came out of the match with any credit, but Cattermole received a large amount of criticism.

There is a feeling that the central-midfielder’s injury problems have caught up with him now, and that he is well past his best.

And Sunderland fans are calling for Cattermole to be dropped and sold by Grayson, with a shake-up clearly needed at the Stadium of Light.

Cattermole has been with Sunderland since 2009, but he has never faced this volume of criticism before.

Sunderland’s defeat to Ipswich leaves the Wearsiders sitting in 22nd place in the Championship table, with concerns that they could be in a relegation fight growing by the game.
