HITC Sport understands Chesterfield are set to name former star and current Nottingham Forest coach Jack Lester as their new manager.

Nottingham Forest Under-23s coach Jack Lester is set to be named as Chesterfield’s new manager, HITC Sport understands.

Chesterfield have been searching for a new manager since the sacking of Gary Caldwell earlier this month.

The Spireites have won just one of their opening nine games in League Two this season and sit second from bottom of the table, off the basement because of goal difference.

Former Chesterfield manager Gary Caldwell

Former Chesterfield hero Lester was the club’s top target to succeed Caldwell and talks have progressed well between both parties about the 41-year-old returning to the club.

Lester made nearly 200 appearances for Chesterfield during a six-year stint at the Derbyshire club before hanging up his boots in 2013.

The former striker has been learning his trade as Under-23s manager at Forest and he has impressed during his time at the City Ground.

Lester is understood to be keen on taking his first steps into senior management and Chesterfield are ready to offer him that chance as they look to transform their fortunes.
