It is claimed Wolves enquired about the Scotland international after failing to conclude a deal for Jurgen Locadia of PSV Eindhoven.
The Express & Star reports that Watford’s Stefano Okaka and Chelsea’s Loic Remy (now Las Palmas) were also approached, but to no avail.

However, the 28-year-old later moved on a season-long loan to Fulham, sanctioned by Derby’s then manager Nigel Pearson, and helped the London side into the Championship play-offs.
Despite his success at Fulham, the player is said to have opted against a permanent move to Craven Cottage, favouring a return to Pride Park where Steve McClaren and Gary Rowett have since replaced Pearson.

However, Martin has only started two of Derby’s five league matches this season, and failed to open his goalscoring account.
Meanwhile, Wolves have been left with Leo Bonatini as their only specialist senior striker, having offloaded Joe Mason and Nouha Dicko in the final week of the summer transfer window.
