According to the Daily Mail (Press Reader, September 1st 2017), Everton failed with a late move for Fiorentina striker Khouma Babacar before Thursday's transfer deadline.

The Toffees were one of the Premier League's busiest clubs in the summer transfer window, bringing in Jordan PIckford, Cuco Martina, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Nikola Vlasic, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney to boost Ronald Koeman's squad.

However, Everton went into transfer deadline day needing a striker, having sold Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, with many believing that the Toffees hadn't done enough to replace the Belgian international after he was the club's top goalscorer last season.

Now, the Daily Mail (Press Reader, September 1st 2017) report that Everton did ask to sign Fiorentina's Khouma Babacar - but their deadline day move for the striker didn't materialise, meaning the Toffees ended the transfer without the goalscorer they wanted.

Babacar, 24, has come up through the ranks with Fiorentina since signing from Pescara in 2008, and he enjoyed a fine campaign last term, scoring 14 goals in 29 games in an impressive season.

With top striker Nikola Kalinic leaving Fiorentina for AC Milan, Babacar is expected to be an important part of Stefano Pioli's plans this season, alongside new signing Giovanni Simeone.

That meant that Fiorentina rebuffed Everton's offer, though the Toffees may well keep tabs on his playing time between now and January, with the possibility of making a new move for him in 2018.

A strong striker who can lead the line on his own, Babacar fit the bill for Everton as they looked to replace Lukaku, but the Senegal international is staying put in Florence - with Koeman now having to make do with the attackers he already has, having failed to prise Babacar away on deadline day.
