Forshaw, who according to The Telegraph was considered for an England call-up by Gareth Southage less than a year ago, could find his Boro place under threat this season, following the signings of Jonny Howson and Lewis Baker in the summer.

And that uncertainty is said to have triggered late interest from Wednesday and Wolves, only for Middlesbrough to refuse to sell the 25-year-old, who is under contract until 2020.
Luckily, both clubs were able strengthen their midfields ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, with Wednesday bringing in Derby County’s Jacob Butterfield and Wolves landing Villarreal’s Alfred N’Diaye, each on season-long loan deals.

Wolves, who were strongly linked with a move for Owls striker Jordan Rhodes only months after his permanent move from Middlesbrough, did however fail to strengthen up front – despite selling Nouha Dicko to Hull City earlier this week.
