William Carvalho is allegedly still keen on a move to West Ham United.
According to the Daily Mail’s live transfer blog (12:44), Sporting CP midfielder William Carvalho is still hoping to join West Ham United before tonight’s transfer deadline.
The Hammers may have brought in proven Premier League players such as Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez over the summer, but with three defeats from three games, manager Slaven Bilic is under pressure – and could head back into the transfer market.
A new central midfielder appears to be on Bilic’s wish list, with West Ham pursuing a deal for Sporting CP star William Carvalho in recent weeks, though a deal has proved difficult.
The London Evening Standard reported earlier today that West Ham’s move to sign Carvalho had collapsed, after the Portuguese giants asked for £40million – around £5million more than what the Hammers were willing to pay.
However, the Daily Mail report that Carvalho hasn’t yet given up hope of making the move to the London Stadium before tonight’s transfer deadline, as he harbours dreams of playing in the Premier League.
Leicester City are also claimed to be interested, and with Spurs rivalling West Ham for alternative target Andre Gomes, the Hammers may yet be able to rekindle their deal for Carvalho.
Carvalho, 25, has come up through the ranks with Sporting having joined back in 2005, and he has now made more than 150 first-team appearances for the Portuguese giants, whilst also earning 37 caps for the Portuguese national team.
A strong midfielder with an impressive passing range, Carvalho could bring both power and poise to the West Ham midfield, but it may well require a club-record £40million bid to get the deal done – and time is running out.
