Sunderland drew 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday evening.
The Black Cats took the lead at Hillsborough as former Wednesday winger Aiden McGeady found George Honeyman to open the scoring from close range, but David Jones grabbed an equaliser for the hosts with 20 minutes to play.
Sunderland may feel disappointed to have thrown away their lead, but it continues an unbeaten start to life in the hot seat for new manager Simon Grayson.
The Black Cats opened their campaign with a 1-1 home draw with Derby County, but just days after beating Bury 1-0 in the Carabao Cup, Sunderland hammered Norwich City 3-1 at Carrow Road in a superb displays.
Wednesday's point means it's now five points from three games for Grayson, and with summer signings such as Tyias Browning, Aiden McGeady and Lewis Grabban all showing real promise, Sunderland fans can finally allow themselves to be optimistic.
Whilst Grayson impressed in over four years as Preston manager, taking them to promotion from League One and then to two top half finishes in the Championship on a limited budget, some wondered whether the Sunderland job may be too big for him.
However, the early signs are that Grayson can finally steady the Sunderland ship, and Football League pundit Adam Virgo raved about the Black Cats boss on Wednesday night.
Virgo took to Twitter to suggest that Grayson is showing just how good he is, and after his fine work with Preston, he is now enjoying an excellent start to the season with Sunderland - and that's an encouraging view on Grayson, especially after last season's dismal campaign under David Moyes.
Simon Grayson showing what a quality manager he is. Showed that with Preston on a small budget he can do well. Exellent start to the season— Adam Virgo (@Adamvirgs19) August 16, 2017
