HITC Sport understands Preston reject Cardiff bid for star.
Greg Cunningham of Preston North End is tackled by Lew Immers of Cardiff City
Preston North End have rejected a bid from Cardiff City for defender Greg Cunningham, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Cardiff have been tracking Cunningham all summer and Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock has made his move for the Republic of Ireland international with Cardiff left-back Joe Bennett on the verge of a move to Fulham.
Warnock sees Cunningham as an ideal replacement for Bennett should he seal his move to Fulham and the Cardiff boss is a big admirer of the former Manchester City youngster.
Cunningham has established himself as one of the most consistent defenders in the Championship after impressing in the past two seasons for Preston.
The 26-year-old has made over 90 appearances for Preston since his arrival from Bristol City in the summer of 2015.
Cunningham has been made captain of Preston this season under new manager Alex Neil and he still has two years to run on his current deal at Deepdale.
Preston have rejected Cardiff's bid, understood to be in the region of £2million, for Cunningham as they are keen to keep hold of the left-back.
It remains to be seen if Cardiff will come back an improved offer for Cunningham before the close of the transfer window in a bid to persuade Preston to sell the defender.
