The Wolverhampton Wanderers star spent a season on loan to Sheffield United.

Sheffield United have bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Conor Coady, their manager, Chris Wilder, told BBC Radio Sheffield on Wednesday.

Coady, who spent the 2013-14 season on loan with the Blades, would appear to feature prominently in the plans of new Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, after captaining the Black Country club to victory against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

But speaking after United’s 3-2 win against Walsall, Wilder confirmed there is truth to the rumour which surfaced online ahead of the game – adding that the Blades see themselves as an “ambitious football club”.

“Yeah we have (made an offer for Coady),” admitted the Sheffield United boss.

When asked whether or not their approach had been accepted, Wilder added: “That’ll be kept between the two clubs.

“I’m not going to talk about the player, we’ve placed a bid for the player.

“You do your research on the player and what you think his qualities are and I think we might be on the same page.

“We like to think we’re an ambitious football club.”

The Sheffield Star reported earlier on Wednesday that United remain interested in signing League One duo Darragh Lenihan and Ryan Leonard.

The Blades have seen multiple offers turned down for both Lenihan, a central defender with Blackburn Rovers, and Leonard, a midfielder with Southend United.

But capturing Coady, who has played in both positions as well as right-back for Wolves, could bring to an end the Blades’ pursuit of the pair.
