Everton’s ‘interest’ is said to have ended, but Zapata could still end up in England’s North West with Burnley.

Napoli striker Duvan Zapata could still be bound for England’s North West this summer, despite Everton having allegedly put an end to their ‘interest’.

Carlo Jacomuzzi, who is said to be employed as an Everton scout, told Italian radio station Radio CRC at the start of last month the Toffees’ had turned their attention to Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud instead.

But according to The Daily Mail, Burnley are now discussing a move for Zapata, with Napoli said to be keen on selling the Colombia international – who could also be available on loan.

It is claimed that Torino saw a £12 million offer for the player turned down last month, while Jacomuzzi suggested he would cost £22.6 million.

Burnley are looking for front line reinforcements after seeing their top scorer, Andre Gray, enter the final year of his contract, and Zapata, who scored 19 goals during a two-year loan to Udinese, could fit the bill at Turf Moor.

Incidentally, Everton are one of three clubs, alongside West Ham United and Watford, listed by The Daily Mail as having made enquiries for Gray.

Would Zapata be a good signing for Burnley? Should Everton have pounced?
