The Newcastle United ace could struggle for first team action at St James’ Park this season.
Magpies youngster Freddie Woodman sat down for an exclusive interview with the Chronicle, and admitted that he might have to leave St James’ Park this summer in order to nail down more regular first-team football.
The 20-year-old is behind both Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow in the Newcastle goalkeeping pecking order, and his development could very well be hindered at this stage of his career, if he doesn’t receive the opportunity of regular game-time.
The youngster spent the second half of last season on loan with Kilmarnock, where he showcased his impressive talent on a consistent basis, and another temporary spell away from Tyneside could very well be on the cards for Woodman.

He sat down for an interview with the Chronicle, and admitted that the most important thing for him this season is playing, regardless of wherever that may be:
“I am at that stage of my career where I have got to play games in order to keep improving like I did at Kilmarnock. Whatever happens this season ideally I want to be playing football matches. It’s up to the manager and up to the club what they think is best for my development.”
The tricky thing about being a goalkeeper is that if you are not first choice, your game-time is severely limited throughout the season, and whilst Woodman is undoubtedly regarded in the very highest esteem by Newcastle, it is unlikely that he will stake his claim to be a first-team regular this term.
And a loan move away from St James’ Park will surely benefit all parties concerned.
