West Ham United took on Werder Bremen for the second time in quick succession.

West Ham United and Werder Bremen drew 2-2 in the second leg of their Betway Cup match on Saturday, with new Hammers player Marko Arnautovic getting his first goal for the club and youngster Toni Martinez also finding his way on to the score sheet.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic gave some of his young players a run-out, with winger Nathan Holland appearing in the second half, and big things are expected of the 19-year-old in time.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic is seen during the Premier League match between Burnley and West Ham United at Turf Moor on May 21, 2017 in Burnley, England.

Bilic has come in for some criticism in the past for not giving youth a chance and, when you consider the Hammers have some of the best teenage prospects in the country coming through the ranks, the fans' frustration is justified.

This summer has seen the likes of Holland, Martinez, Reece Burke and Declan Rice all given a chance at one time or another, but they could still struggle to make their mark when the competitive action kicks off next month.

That said, all they can do is their best during pre-season and hope it is ultimately enough to be included in the first-team fold from August.

For some, a loan move seems likely, but others could get chances in the cup competitions and in the league when circumstances dictate.
