Everton are said to pondering a move for West Ham defender Winston Reid.

Everton are eyeing up an ambitious move for West Ham United defender Winston Reid.

According to the Daily Mail, the Merseyside club are plotting a £9 million bid to tempt Reid away from West Ham.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is keen to strengthen his defensive options following the news that centre-back Ramiro Funes Mori is set for a long spell out on the sidelines.

The Argentine underwent surgery earlier this week after he suffered a torn meniscus whilst on international duty in March. The 26-year-old is expected to miss the majority of the 2016-17 campaign.

Reid has just returned from injury himself and is hoping to be fit for the start of the Premier League campaign. Now it seems that the New Zealand international could make his return to top-flight action in an Everton shirt.

The 29-year-old only recently signed a new contract extension until 2021 with the Hammers. However they could be tempted to cash in on Reid, who has racked up over 200 appearances in seven years in East London.

Despite securing the services of England international Michael Keane this summer, Koeman will be keen to add another centre-half to the ranks now that he is without Funes Mori for a long spell.

Everton fans have seen their side undergo a busy summer already, with large sums of money being spent to strengthen the club’s bid to break into the Premier League’s top four. More players are expected to arrive at Goodison Park before the Transfer Window closes.
