Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk is reportedly wanted by Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino is prepared to tell Virgil van Dijk that he will not be sold in the summer transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

Van Dijk is training on his own at Southampton’s New Forest base, while the rest of the squad continue their pre-season preparations for the 2017-18 campaign.

According to the report, the Saints are confident that the Netherlands international will accept the situation, and that the centre-back will be reintegrated into first-team training next week.

Blow for Liverpool?

This report could come as a blow for Liverpool, who have been linked with a move for Van Dijk in the summer transfer window.

According to The Daily Mail, the Merseyside outfit have been in touch with Southampton regarding the transfer of the 26-year-old former Celtic star, who is valued at around £50m by Southampton.

If the Saints are determined to keep hold of the Dutchman, then it will be a blow to Liverpool, who will have to look elsewhere for a central defender.
