Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino will be desperate to add some real quality to his ranks this summer, as he looks to guide his side to a successful Premier League campaign this term.
One particular area of the Argentine's squad that needs addressing is the central midfield department, with the addition of a box-to-box type player surely featuring highly on the Southampton manager's agenda.
A report from the Sun today claims that the south coast outfit are interested in signing Napoli ace Allan this summer, and for the £10 million that is being quoted for his signature, the Brazilian would be an excellent addition to the Saints squad.
Allan in action for Napoli
The 26-year-old impressed in Serie A last season, with his highly energetic displays providing the drive behind his Napoli side's successful league campaign.
The Brazilian possesses stamina levels that are rivalled by few, and that kind of physical prowess would help inject a much-needed level of urgency into Southampton's play this term.
Allan would be the perfect accompaniment to Steven Davis and Oriol Romeu in the heart of the Saints' engine room, and his potential arrival at St Mary's would undoubtedly provide them with a totally different facet to their attacking and defensive play.
And for just £10 million, he would represent a real coup for Southampton.
Mauricio Pellegrino's men will not have things all their own way in their pursuit of the Napoli ace, however, with Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion also interested in securing his services, according to the Sun.
