Southend United will want to build on last season’s seventh placed finish but they won’t be able to call-upon Rangers winger Harry Forrester.

Harry Forrester may have been told in no uncertain terms that he has no future at Rangers but that does not mean the winger will jump at the first opportunity to escape his Ibrox nightmare.

According to the Daily Record, Forrester rejected the chance to join League One club Southend United this summer despite Gers boss Pedro Caixinha making it clear that he is no longer part of his plans.

“Harry poured cold water on [the potential move to Roots Hall], but if we could rekindle it then of course I would still be interested,” Shrimpers boss Phil Brown said in quotes reported by the Daily Record.

However, it’s now over a month since Forrester was told that he was free to find a new club this summer and it appears that Southend are the first club to have made a reported approach for the 26-year-old.

Therefore, you wonder whether the winger may end up regretting taking the chance to return to England’s third tier, the division where he has arguably enjoyed the best form of his career.

The former Aston Villa youngster shone in League One with Brentford, scoring eight goals to help them win promotion to the Championship in 2012/13. And he was also a reliable goalscorer with Doncaster Rovers in 2014/15.

Enticing offer

Furthermore, Southend appear to be going places under Brown, finishing seventh last season and just one point adrift of the play-off places. They’ve signed intelligently too, bringing in young West Ham left-back Stephen Hendry and experienced former Norwich defender Michael Turner.

Furthermore, Michael Kightly, the one-time Wolves favourite to rediscovered that golden touch on loan at Burton Albion last season, is a major statement of intent.

Will Forrester get a better offer this summer? After he rejected a move to Roots Hall, he’d hope so.
