The West Ham United striker would be a useful addition to the Bristol City squad this summer.
Ashley Fletcher faces an uncertain future with the Hammers, following the confirmed signing of Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez’s impending arrival at the London Stadium.
The 21-year-old could be available on loan this summer, according to the Sun, and a whole host of Championship clubs have already expressed an interest in signing him, including Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
And the Robins should consider joining the race for the West Ham hitman, with Lee Johnson in desperate need of more firepower in forward areas ahead of the start of the new Championship campaign.
The former Manchester United academy graduate is highly talented, of that there is no doubt, but he has never really been given an opportunity to showcase his true ability since joining the Hammers last summer.
He is at an age now where he needs to play regular first-team football, or risk hampering his development as a player, and Ashton Gate could be just the place for him to do that.
Fletcher would provide Johnson’s men with a real focal point to their attacking play, and his strength in the air would offer them a totally different threat to what they currently possess.
With so many potentially interested parties in the West Ham man’s signature, it will not be easy for Johnson to convince him into moving to Ashton Gate, but the guarantee of regular first-team football could be enough to tip the scales in the Robins’ favour.
And if Bristol City do manage to win the race for Fletcher, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Johnson’s men.
