Arsenal are tracking Basel and Norway winger Mohamed Elyounoussi, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Arsenal scouts are understood to have watched Elyounoussi in action for Basel over the weekend on the opening weekend of the new Swiss Super League season.

Elyounoussi, who can play out wide or up front, enjoyed a fantastic season with Basel last term, scoring 10 goals and laying on 13 assists in 32 games in the Swiss Super League as Basel won their eighth consecutive title.

The 22-year-old joined Basel last summer from Molde after scoring 42 goals in 92 appearances for the Norwegian club and he quickly established himself as Basel’s star man.

Arsenal are well aware of Elyounoussi after coming up against him twice in the Champions League group stages last season.

Elyounoussi’s performances for club and country over the past 12 months have not gone unnoticed among clubs in bigger European leagues.

Premier League duo Leicester and Southampton have both been credited with an interest in Elyounoussi and now Arsenal are keeping tabs on his progress.

Basel are reluctant to lose Elyounoussi and are bracing themselves for interest in the attacking midfielder this summer and they would find it hard to keep him if Arsenal firm up their interest in his services.
