Mel Eves says that Wolves need to sign a goal scoring centre forward.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers player, Mel Eves, said that the club owners have kept their words so far regarding investment.

Chinese conglomerate Fosun have poured nearly £50 million in transfer fees alone since they took over. They have invested twice as much as they said they would in half the time.

Wolves have spent heavily this summer as well, with as many as nine new players signed – the cream of the crop being Ruben Neves, who joined from Porto for around £15 million.

The new manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, wants to play a possession based football in a 3-4-3 system, and Eves says only time will tell whether the latest signings would prove to be successful.

However, he feels that Wolves need to invest in a goal scoring centre-forward – the one ‘crucial’ position that could help them mount a realistic challenge for promotion.

He adds that these types of players come at a premium, but if the club can find one Fosun’s long term plan could be on the road to success.

“The one position that Wolves have yet to invest in, and one which I believe is crucial to a realistic challenge for promotion this season, is a goal-scoring centre-forward,” wrote Eves in his column for The Sunday Mercury (printed edition; page 44)

“These players come at a premium, of course, abut just as Wolves did nearly 40 years ago, they have to be bold and go for it.”
