The Cardiff City defender has signed a new deal, shortly after Sheffield Wednesday saw their offer turned down by the Bluebirds.
Sheffield Wednesday can cross Sean Morrison off their list of central defensive targets, after he committed his future to Cardiff City on Thursday.
Wednesday made a £3 million bid for Morrison in June, but were informed by Cardiff boss Neil Warnock that their offer ‘wouldn’t even buy one of the Bluebirds skipper’s legs’.
The Owls now face a race against time to strengthen their options at the back, with the new Championship season little more than a fortnight away.
Nevertheless, there are plenty of Wednesday supporters who don’t believe that missing out on Morrison is necessarily a bad thing.
Good , I don’t rate him— Rich Norton Owl (@norton_owl) 20 July 2017
Glad we’re not signing morrison, never rated him and he’s no better than what we’ve got. We need to sign a cb to improve the 1st team #swfc— Danny Booth (@owlzmadboothy) 20 July 2017
Good. He’s no better then what we have anyways— James Jordan (@JamesJordan91) 20 July 2017
I don’t doubt he’s a decent CB but Warnock was trying to have our pants down on the price. Glad he’s signed new deal.— Olive Grove (Jon) (@Owlizee) 20 July 2017
Disappointed with that. Good solid centre half. Need to get that position sorted asap— George Glossop (@GGlossop93) 20 July 2017
Good!— Dee (@Hirstysrightpeg) 20 July 2017
Naturally, many have their own targets in mind, and a quick glance on Twitter has unearthed a lengthy wish list, with Josh Egan, Harlee Dean (both Brentford), Steven Caulker (Queens Park Rangers), Tomas Kalas, Michael Hector, Kenneth Omeruo (all Chelsea), Grant Hanley (Newcastle United), Daniel Ayala (Middlesbrough), Kyle Bartley (Swansea City), Tommy Elphick and Nathan Baker (both Aston Villa) all namechecked.
But there’s one player whose name seems to appear more than most…
Aden Flint for me. Do a great job— Sam Emson (@SamEmmo93) 20 July 2017
Gonna have to go for Flint or Hanley now.— Blair Hardman (@Blair_Hardman) 20 July 2017
Flint! And scores some goals⚽— Steve laughton (@chopperowl) 20 July 2017
I’m glad. Flint is a better option than Morrison. Would be happy with spunking 5m on Flint. Then peanuts on a lower league CB.— Daniel Sanders (@DanPeterSanders) 20 July 2017
Aden flint, Harlee dean, either one would cost £5 million at least, but crying out for one, easier said than done though— J. saville ⚽️ (@sheff_sav) 20 July 2017
He’s 28— Matt Brown (@footballtyper) 20 July 2017
Which defender(s) should Sheffield Wednesday be targeting?
