Is the 22-year-old heading for a Newcastle United departure?
Speaking to The Chronicle, Aleksandar Mitrovic has done little to stem the tide of speculation about his Newcastle United future.
The 22-year-old striker is linked with a move away from Newcastle this summer after falling behind Dwight Gayle in Rafael Benitez’s pecking order last season.
Mitrovic, signed by Steve McClaren two years ago, has been offered to Ligue 1 side Lyon for £16 million, according to Foot Mercato, having been linked to Fenerbahce already.
And although the Serbian hitman has claimed that he is “happy” with the Magpies, the ex-Anderlecht did not really suggest he will definitely be there by September.
“I am happy here,” he told The Chronicle.
“We will see what has happened by the end of the transfer window but at the moment I am here and I will do everything to work hard like I always do.”
Mitrovic has a bright future ahead of him but it remains to be seen if he is good enough to not only keep Newcastle in the Premier League, but help Benitez’s side thrive on their top-flight return.
By virtue of the fact that he has only 13 goals in 55 Premier League and Championship games, it is doubtful.
