Alvaro Negredo enjoyed decent spells in England with Man City and Middlesbrough and the Valencia striker could be exactly what Wolves are looking for.

With less than a month until the new Championship season kicks off, you wonder where the goals are going to come from at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have brought in a number of astute additions to solidify the backline while also shattering their transfer record to sign Porto captain Ruben Neves in arguably the most eye-catching Championship signing of all time.

Yet no new strikers have made their way through the gates of Molineux this summer while Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, who netted just three last season, has left for Reading.

As such, this leaves Nouha Dicko as the club’s only senior centre-forward heading into the new campaign. And he too managed just three in 2016/17 after returning from a long-term injury.

However, this is where the divisive influence of super-agent Jorge Mendes could come in. While the Portuguese, a close confidante of Wolves’ owners, has been criticised for a perceived influence over the club’s transfer policy, it cannot be forgotten that he was instrumental in the additions of Neves, Ivan Cavaleiro and Helder Costa.

And he would surely win over a few more fans if he brought one of his most illustrious clients, Alvaro Negredo, to the Black Country.

Returning to Valencia after a decent season on loan at Middlesbrough, the former Spanish international appears unlikely to remain with Los Che next season as he’s hardly the ideal fit for new manager Marcelino’s high tempo gameplan.

However, he could be exactly the man Wolves are looking out for. In two seasons in English football with Boro and Manchester City, Negredo was far from consistent but still netted a combined 31 goals.

He knows Wolves boss Nuno very well, having lead the line as Valencia finished fourth in La Liga in 2014/15. A reunion could suit all parties.

And Mendes could make it happen.
