Crystal Palace move ahead of Everton, Newcastle and Southampton in race to sign Arsenal’s Calum Chambers.
Crystal Palace are now the favourites to sign Arsenal’s Calum Chambers this summer, reports the Croydon Advertiser, as the defender continues to be linked with a move away from North London.
Chambers cast his future at the Emirates Stadium into doubt in June when he refused to discuss whether he was staying with the Gunners or not during an interview after turning out for the England Under-21s – according to the Evening Standard.
The 22-year-old was linked by the Sun with both Everton and Newcastle United in a £15m move, although both clubs have since signed centre-backs in Michael Keane and Florin Lejeune respectively.
The same newspaper later claimed that Southampton had also joined the race for Chambers’ signature, lining up the Englishman as a replacement for Virgil van Dijk; who has been heavily linked with Liverpool.
The England international came through the ranks at St Mary’s, playing 25 times for the Saints before moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2014.
After playing 36 times during that first season under Arsene Wenger, first team opportunities have since diminished and Chambers spent the 2016/17 campaign on loan at Middlesbrough.
