According to a report from Gazette Live, Middlesbrough are set to beat Newcastle in the race for Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo due to the Reds' desire to see the 20-year-old play regularly during the coming campaign.
Gazette Live reports that the Magpies have gone head to head with Garry Monk's side in a bid to try and land the wide-man on a season-long loan as Rafa Benitez attempts to add to his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.
Liverpool's Sheyi Ojo
However, it appears that Ojo will not be playing at St James' Park this term, as Gazette Live reports that Boro are the club who Jurgen Klopp would rather loan the England under-20 international to due to the fact that he expects the youngster to enjoy more first-team football in the Championship than he would with Newcastle in the top flight.
The news will undoubtedly prove to be a blow for Benitez, who appears to have endured a frustrating summer so far with few signings made with just over a month to go before they take on Tottenham on the opening day of the season.
He may have been hoping that the fact that Ojo has already played for the likes of Wigan and Wolves in the second tier in recent years may have tempted Klopp to urge him to test himself at a higher level, and use Newcastle's interest as an opportunity to play in the top flight.
However, it now appears that Benitez will have to switch his attention elsewhere if he hopes to sign a second winger this summer following the acquisition of former loanee Christian Atsu.
