According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United want permanent additions in central midfield – but could utilise the loan market for other areas of their squad.

However, there is a desire at Newcastle to do more business and central midfield is a particular area of importance.

Newcastle are determined to add to their options in the middle of the pitch, but loan targets are not wanted in that area.

Benitez wants to spine of his squad to be permanently at Newcastle, so he can plan for the future.

Newcastle have an enquiry in for Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and they also are interested in Liverpool’s Sheji Ojo.

Benitez is more open to doing loan deals in wide and attacking areas.

Newcastle are also scouring the Spanish market for targets, with English clubs demanding big fees for their players.
