Manchester United defender Regan Poole is poised to join Northampton Town on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Poole joined United in September 2015 after catching the eye as a teenager at Newport County.

The 19-year-old made his United debut under Louis van Gaal in a Europa League tie against FC Midtjylland in February 2016 and he is highly-regarded within the corridors of power at Old Trafford.

Poole did not not make a first team appearance during the 2016-17 season, but he was a regular in the club's Under-23s side.

The Wales Under-21 international is well down the pecking order for a spot in Jose Mourinho's star-studded line-up and he feels the next stage in Poole's development is to go out on loan to get regular first-team experience under his belt.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in Poole, but Northampton have moved quickly to secure a loan deal for the talented central defender.
