Newcastle United have reportedly joined West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign the Hull City midfielder.

Newcastle United have enquired about Hull City midfielder Tom Huddlestone, according to The Sun.

It is claimed that Huddlestone – who is also said to be interesting West Bromwich Albion – can leave for £2 million following Hull’s relegation, due to a clause in his contract.

The 30-year-old was a regular in the Tigers’ ill-fated Premier League campaign, having previously played for Derby County and Tottenham Hotspur.

And immediate return to the top flight is sure to appeal to the four-cap England international, while a move to Newcastle – where former Hull colleagues Isaac Hayden and Mo Diame currently ply their trades – could be particularly attractive.

Nevertheless, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has struggled to land targets so far and the prospect of competition from league rivals West Brom – who’ve lost a playmaker of their own in Darren Fletcher this summer – could be a cause for concern.

Another of Huddlestone’s old partners, Jake Livermore, moved from Hull to West Brom in January.
