HITC Sport understands Sheffield Wednesday reject bid for goalkeeper.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Keiren Westwood
Sheffield Wednesday have rejected Middlesbrough’s bid for goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk is looking to bolster his goalkeeping options this summer after seeing Victor Valdes and Brad Guzan both leave the club at the end of last season.
The departures of Valdes and Guzan leaves Boro with veteran keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos and youngster Connor Ripley as their only recognised goalkeepers and Monk knows he must bring in goalkeeping reinforcements.
Monk has identified Republic of Ireland international Westwood as his top target as he looks to bring in a new No.1 keeper ahead of next season.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Keiren Westwood
Westwood has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers outside the Premier League after catching the eye for Sheffield Wednesday since his arrival from Sunderland.
The 32-year-old has been instrumental in helping Sheffield Wednesday reach the Championship play-offs in the last two seasons and he has won the club’s player of the season in two of the last three seasons.
Wednesday are reluctant to lose Westwood as they look to mount another bid for promotion to the Premier League next season and they have rejected Middlesbrough’s offer for the former Manchester City shot-stopper.
