Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Benfica’s Lisandro Lopez.

Newcastle United have reportedly shown an interest in defensive midfielder Andreas Samaris who plays for Benfica.

The Mirror claimed last week that the Magpies are closing in on a deal for the 28-year-old Greek international midfielder.

It seems, Samaris is not the only Benfica player Newcastle are interested about. According to O Jogo (printed edition; page 12), the Magpies are showing a keen interest in Lisandro Lopez as well.

The 27-year-old joined Benfica in 2013 on a five-year deal. He was immediately loaned to Getafe where he enjoyed a decent campaign for the Spanish outfit.

O Jogo claims that Lopez could be allowed to leave the club this summer. He has a contract at the club till 2021, but is not a guaranteed starter.

Most importantly, Rui Vitoria has options in that position. Along with the experienced Luisao and Jardel, Vitoria can still count on Ruben Dias and Kalaica.

Both Ruben and Kalaica will be integrated into the senior squad next season, which could push Lopez further down the pecking order.

Newcastle won’t face any problem bringing him to the Premier League, as he has dual citizenship – Spanish and Argentine – and will get work permit easily.
