Newcastle United are interested in signing Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, according to The Chronicle.

Casilla re-joined Spanish and European giants Madrid from Espanyol in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £4.2 million.

The Spain international is the second-choice custodian at the Santiago Bernabeu at the moment, with Keylor Navas the number one goalkeeper.

Casilla has not even made 20 La Liga appearances over the past two seasons at Madrid, and perhaps Newcastle could be able to persuade him to switch to St. James’ Park.

Leaving Los Blancos for the Magpies would be a step-down for the goalkeeper, but he would have a better chance of playing first-team football.

The 30-year-old is not going to become the first-choice goalkeeper at Madrid anytime soon, and perhaps he should consider a move to Newcastle.

The Magpies will feature in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

So far at Madrid, Casilla has won La Liga (2016-17), the Champions League twice (2015-16, 2016-17), the UEFA Super Cup (2016) and the FIFA Club World Cup (2016).
