European football expert Gabriele Marcotti has told ESPN FC that Everton have overpaid for Davy Klaassen.

Premier League club Everton recently competed the signing of Klaassen from Dutch outfit Ajax for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £23.6 million.

Marcotti, who is a well-known European football expert and writes for ESPN and The Times, believes that the Toffees have paid too much money for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder.

“I really like Davy Klaassen, I love the way he plays, I think £26m for him is way, way too much money,” Marcotti told ESPN FC about Klaassen.

“He has got a lot of personality, he is a tidy passer, but there is a reason he is where he still was at this stage of his career. I think it’s a great deal for Ajax."

Klaassen is a good player, and the Netherlands international attacking midfielder enjoyed a very good 2016-17 campaign with Ajax.

The 24-year-old scored 14 goals and provided nine assists in 33 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax this past season, according to WhoScored.

The Dutchman scored two goals and provided one assist in 13 Europa League matches for Ajax in 2016-17, according to WhoScored.

Klaassen is still relatively young, and there is time for the Netherlands international attacking midfielder to develop his game and improve himself further.
