Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has reportedly resigned himself to missing out on the former Bhoys loan star.

Celtic's Patrick Roberts applauds fans at the end of the match

Celtic are resigned to missing out on Patrick Roberts and pursuing other targets, according to the Scottish Sun.

Jonny Hayes' arrival from Aberdeen should soften the blow somewhat, although capturing any of the following stars could help the Bhoys to forget about Roberts entirely...

Jamie Walker

With Rangers appearing to have made little progress in their attempt to sign the Hearts star, Celtic could make their rivals pay for their hesitance. The Edinburgh side are said to want slightly more than £1 million for the 23-year-old, which the Bhoys should have no trouble affording. The only concern would be the sour taste he left in Scott Brown's mouth during August's meeting between the two sides. Whether the Celtic skipper is prepared to forgive and forget remains to be seen.

Tom Lawrence

A reported Celtic target in 2016, Lawrence ended up at Ipswich Town on loan and his performances in Suffolk are said to have attracted several more suitors. With a year left on his Leicester City contract, it is likely the Wales international will be on the move this summer, and he would probably cost less than Celtic were willing to pay for Roberts. The prospect of Champions League football could tempt him north of the border.

Emre Mor

Perhaps the most like-for-like Roberts replacement on this list, reports suggest Mor could be available on loan this summer - despite moving to Borussia Dortmund in an £8 million deal a year ago. The Turkey international has only made six starts for his new employers, while the recent capture of Maximilian Philipp from Freiburg is likely to push him further down the pecking order. He was said to be target for Liverpool while still in Denmark, so could be known to Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers already. Nevertheless, he'd be an ambitious target for the Bhoys.
