England beat Italy 2-1 in the Under-20’s World Cup this afternoon.
England advanced into the final of the Under-20 World Cup earlier today with a 3-1 win over Italy, setting up a clash with Venezuela.
The Three Lions had beaten Mexico earlier this week to make it to the last four of the competition, but their hopes of final success in South Korea were dented when Riccardo Orsolini put Italy in front in Jeonju after just two minutes.
England did fire back in the second half though, as Liverpool new boy Dominic Solanke equalised on 66 minutes, before Everton’s Ademola Lookman put England in front 11 minutes later.
England then sealed the victory with Solanke bagging a third with just two minutes left to play, meaning Paul Simpson’s men will now take on Venzuela in the final on Sunday in Suwon.
A number of England youngsters have impressed over the course of the campaign, and pundit Jamie Carragher took to Twitter earlier today in order to send a message about the win over Italy.
Carragher noted his delight with Liverpool’s new signing Solanke scoring his fourth goal of the tournament, as the young striker looks to kickstart his career having left Chelsea this summer.
Carragher also praised another Liverpool talent, claiming that winger Sheyi Ojo impressed after coming on as a 54th minute substitute, with Reds fans no doubt encouraged by Carragher’s praise for the pair.
The former defender had particular praise for Everton full back Jonjoe Kenny though, claiming that the 20-year-old was ‘outstanding’ – and with Seamus Coleman currently injury, the Everton youth academy product may look to use this tournament to kick on with the Toffees this season.
