Aston Villa have stepped up their interest in Auxerre’s Abdoulaye Sissako by sending scouts to run their eye over the midfield.

A report in The Sun has suggested that Aston Villa are interested in signing Auxerre midfielder Abdoulaye Sissako, and have recently sent their scouts to watch the teenager in action.
Sissako made his debut for the Ligue 2 side this past season, and has since gone on to make 10 league appearances for the side.

His form saw him included in the France squad for the Toulon Tournament, and The Sun reports that Villa, who were considering a summer bid, decided to send some representatives to have a closer look at the 19-year-old.
And it appears that they were impressed by Sissako, with The Sun suggesting that those at the club feel that the youngster has the potential to play at the very highest level.

However, it appears that they will have some competition for his signature with Bundesliga side Hamburg keen on a deal also (via The Sun).
Interestingly, The Sun adds that despite Sissako having two more years on his contract with Auxerre, Villa are optimistic about their chances of completing a move during the coming months.
And if they do manage to pull off a deal, Villa fans will be hoping that their scouts’ assessments of Sissako prove to be accurate as it will certainly boost their chances of battling for promotion next season.
