Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is weighing up a swoop for Willy Caballero, report The Times.

Benitez is keen to add an experienced goalkeeper to his ranks upon the club's Premier League return and has been targeting Pepe Reina.

Yet with Napoli reluctant to let Reina leave, The Times report Caballero has emerged as an option.

The 35-year-old will become a free agent this summer with his contract at Manchester City set to expire at the end of this month.

Caballero has been at City since 2014 but has been used largely as a back-up.

He played a key part in City's 2016 EFL Cup win, starring in a penalty shootout win over Liverpool.

He has plenty of Champions League experience, featuring in the knockout round this past season for City and previously with Malaga.

Newcastle currently have several goalkeeping options, with Tim Krul, Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Matz Sels and if Caballero or Reina was to sign then it is likely at least two of them would be moved on.
