We catch up with the players rumoured to be interesting Leicester City last year.
The Leicester City rumour mill is already hotting up ahead of the transfer window. Let us take this opportunity to remember the players linked to the club last summer and see how they got on this season.
Burnley defender Michael Keane (rumour via the Telegraph) was reportedly high on Claudio Ranieri’s wish-list. The 24-year-old stayed at Turf Moor and went on to have another eye-catching season for the Clarets, which included his first England call-up. Keane will likely draw attention from the division's top clubs this summer.
Keane played alongside another name linked with a move to The King Power Stadium to last summer, Robbie Brady.
The Republic of Ireland international was attracting interest from the Foxes following Norwich City’s relegation to the Championship (The Mirror). Brady had to wait until January for a Premier League switch with Burnley. He played 14 times for the Clarets but was only on the winning side once.
Leicester secured a big money move for forward Islam Slimani last summer, but he was not the only Sporting CP player rumoured to be on his way to the club. According to The Guardian, midfielder Adrien Silva was targeted for an ambitious record-transfer move. Silva ended up staying with Sporting and featured 36 times in all competitions. He scored against Real Madrid in the Champions League back in November.
The likes of Troy Deeney (Telegraph), Saido Berahino (Mirror), Lucas Perez (Guardian) and Gabriel Barbosa (Guardian) all featured in the rumour mills as the Foxes looked to add more firepower to their squad.
Deeney endured a frustrating season at Vicarage Road after falling out-of-favour under Walter Mazzarri. The Watford man still racked up double figures to take his club tally over 100 goals.
Speaking of frustration, Berahino’s search for a Premier League goal continues. After finally exiting West Bromwich Albion in January, the forward is yet to hit the back of the net in 13 games for Stoke City. His goalless run now stretches back to February 2016.
It has been a mixed debut season in English football for Lucas Perez. Despite strong links to Leicester, he joined Arsenal from Deportivo La Coruna in August. The Spaniard only made two Premier League starts all season, scoring in the 3-3 draw with Bournemouth back in January. Perez did bag a hat-trick in the Gunners’ 4-1 Champions League win over FC Basel.
Gabriel Barbosa moved to Inter Milan late on in the summer transfer window. The Brazilian has bagged one in just nine appearances for the club, so far. Barbosa recently drew criticism for his reaction to being an unused sub in the win against Lazio.
