According to a report from ESPN, former Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri is the leading contender to become the new Leeds United boss, after popular manager Garry Monk resigned recently.

The Italian boss, who led Leicester City to Champions League football and an incredible Premier League trophy, has been out of work since being sacked by the Foxes after their decline down the table.

After Andrea Radrizzani’s takeover at Elland Road, many Leeds United fans expected Garry Monk to sign a contract extension at the club, and lead them in another promotion push next season.

And now after his resignation, Radrizzani is looking to move quickly to appoint a new manager, likely using his contacts in Italy to speak to the very popular Ranieri.

Despite the heart-break of his departure from Leicester City, Claudio Ranieri has been quite clear that he does not yet want to retire from football management, and would be keen to take up another offer in England if presented with the right project.

Could Leeds United be just that project? A club of their size, stature and fanbase would likely be very appealing to the out of work manager, and could offer him an opportunity to rebuild his already respected reputation after the sorry end to his time at Leicester City.

With Leeds United wanting to prepare for next season as quickly as possible, any move for Claudio Ranieri could likely happen sooner rather than later, and thanks to their new owner’s connections, this surprising appointment could very well soon become a reality.
