What happened to the players linked with Everton last summer?

We catch up with the players linked with a move to Everton in last year's summer transfer window.

Before the rumour mill goes into over-drive, let’s take this chance to catch up with some of the players linked to Everton last summer.

Central defenders Lewis Dunk (via The Mirror), Michael Keane (via The Mirror), Kalidou Koulibaly (via the Liverpool Echo) and Daniel Rugani (via the Daily Star) were said to be interesting Everton last summer.

Dunk will be playing Premier League football after winning promotion with Brighton and Hove Albion. The ball-playing centre-back played 43 times for the Seagulls, helping Chris Hughton’s side to an impressive 20 league clean sheets.

Keane’s stock has risen even further after an eye-catching campaign for Burnley, which led to his first England call-up. He is now said to be interesting Liverpool and Manchester United.

Serie A stars, Koulibaly and Rugani, also stayed put last year following links to Goodison Park. Koulibaly was in fine form for 3rd place Napoli this season and recently scored in their 4-1 win over Fiorentina.

Rugani has featured 20 times in all competitions for Juventus. The 22-year-old faces a race to be fit for the Champions League face against Real Madrid after picking up a knee injury in April.

Speaking of Real Madrid, the Toffees were reported, by the Daily Star, to be offered a deal for their Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic. He has gone on to make 39 appearances in all competitions for Madrid and looks set to stay at the Bernabeu for another year.

Stoke City’s Marko Arnautovic was rumoured, by the Daily Mail, to be on Koeman’s wish-list. The former Werder Bremen man signed a new deal at the Bet 365 Stadium before featuring 32 times in the league for the Potters. Arnautovic scored six times for Mark Hughes’ men, including braces against Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

Everton will be on the hunt for a goal-scorer if Romelu Lukaku leaves in the summer. Last year, Italian outlet Sportitlia reported that the Toffees were sinterested in a move for Bordeaux forward Diego Rolan. He remained at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux and manged to find the back of the net on nine occasions for 6th place side.
