Tottenham face a battle to sign Douglas Costa.

In demand…Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa

Tottenham Hotspur’s desire to sign Douglas Costa is under threat from Champions League finalists Juventus.

The Mirror reported last month that Spurs plan to make a move for Costa this summer at £30 million.

Costa, 26, has been used irregularly this season, starting 14 games in the Bundesliga and four times in the Champions League.

He managed to score seven goals and provide six assists, and interest is rising in his services.

Italian newspaper La Stampa report Juventus have made an opening offer for Costa at £21 million.

Tottenham still have a chance to make a move of their own, but it could be a challenge to persuade him to choose them ahead of Juventus.

Juventus have just clinched their Serie A title in a row and face Real Madrid in the Champions League final next Saturday.

Tottenham could attempt to lure him on the basis that he could play a more prominent role in their team, and would risk being a bit part player at Juventus like he is at Bayern.

Costa would be an alternative to Wilfried Zaha, one with greater pedigree in European competitions, but without Premier League experience.
