Newcastle United are said to be keen to snap up Mehdi Abeid from Dijon.

Newcastle United target Mehdi Abeid has already spoken of his desire to return to the Premier League in the Daily Mail.

Back in January, Abeid admitted that he wanted to return to England – after impressing in Ligue 1 in France with Dijon this season.

Abeid left England back in 2015, after Newcastle decided to allow the midfielder to leave.

However, Rafael Benitez’s side are now said to be keen to bring Abeid back to St. James’ Park (L’Equipe).

And the midfielder’s comments from earlier this year, seem to suggest that a move would appeal.

“Yes, I am looking to come back,” Abeid said, five months ago.

“I don’t know if I should say that here, but it’s in my plan to go back to the Premier League.”

Abeid’s last spell at Newcastle lasted for four years, and he showed flashes of potential, but failed to ever hold down a place in the Magpies’ first-team.

Since leaving Newcastle, Abeid has gone on to play for Panathinaikos and, more recently, Dijon.

At Dijon this season, Abeid has scored three goals in 28 Ligue 1 appearances.
