HITC Sport understands Norwich City have beaten Aston Villa and Ipswich Town in the race for the Barnsley star.
Norwich City are closing in on the signing of Barnsley winger Marley Watkins on a free transfer, sources close to the club have told HITC Sport.
Watkin, who joined Barnsley from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2015, is out of contract this summer and he has turned down the club’s offer of a new deal at Oakwell.
Watkins impressed for Barnsley this season, scoring 10 goals in 45 appearances for the Tykes to bring him to the attention of a host of clubs.
A number of clubs including, Aston Villa, Cardiff City, Ipswich Town and Derby County have been linked with a move for Watkins, but Norwich are ready to steal a march on their rivals by tying up a move for the attacker.
Norwich have held talks with Watkins and his representatives and they are ready to offer him a three-year deal to lure him to Carrow Road.
Despite being without a manager Norwich are busy planning to reshape their squad for next season after missing out on the play-offs this season and Watkins could be the first new arrival at Carrow Road this summer.
