Tony Xia, the Aston Villa owner, has said that he is not ‘bothered’ by the Financial Fair Play regulations, but concedes that the club will have to operate conservatively in the transfer market.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Aston Villa hierarchy have given Steve Bruce just £1 million to spend in the transfer market this summer.

Xia has revealed that Villa will have to move players on before signing. He said that the club needs to build a sustainable transfer model for the future.

He adds that Villa does not need a wholesome change to their squad, rather they need to bolster in two or three areas only.

Villa will have to reduce their spending in order to comply with the FFP rules, and that leaves Bruce with an incredibly restricted budget to operate with in the coming months.

As per the latest rule, Villa can lose up to £83 million in three seasons without being penalised.

However, they have currently incurred a deficit of £81.3 million already, according to their last accounts.

Xia’s comments are clear indication that Bruce will have to operate on a shoestring budget, and the Birmingham Mail reports that he will likely have to rely on loan signings this summer.
