West Ham United supporters have been left disappointed this season. After such a sensational campaign last season, and the big move to the new London Stadium, the future was looking increasingly bright for the Hammers.

However, after losing star player Dimitri Payet in January, and recruiting a number of poor signings over the summer, Slaven Bilic's side have really struggled.

After losing French midfielder Payet, who had been without a doubt the standout performer for the Hammers last season, Slaven Bilic's side appeared to have lost its creative spark, and with a number of problems up-front, West Ham United are likely to be after a new attacker this summer.

And according to a report in The Sun, the perfect target has already been identified, as the club look to make an ambitious move for one of the most in-form players in Europe this season.

The report suggests that the Hammers are keen to bring Napoli midfielder Dries Mertens to the London Stadium next season.

The Belgian, who can play up front, behind the striker as well as on the wing, has scored 33 goals in all competitions for the Italian giants this season, and is likely to be a wanted man this summer.

Though West Ham require improvements in multiple areas this summer, signing Dries Mertens would certainly be a huge step back in the right direction.

The Belgian would offer that spark of flair and excitement which has been lacking from this West Ham side this season, and his versatility as a forward would allow Slaven Bilic to continue to move between a number of different systems.
