Manchester City are considering a move for Middlesbrough goalkeeper Victor Valdes according to ESPN FC sources. Pep Guardiola is keen on signing a new stopper after Claudio Bravo failed to live up to his expectations at the Etihad.

Valdes is expected to leave Boro this summer as the club have been relegated from the Premier League. His wages will be too high for the club, and they too will be looking to offload him.

City's other two goalkeepers, Willy Caballero and Joe Hart are not set to be in Guardiola's squad next season. Caballero is out of contract next month while Joe Hart is reportedly set to be sold when he returns from his loan spell and the transfer window opens.

Guardiola has worked with Valdes before and is said to be a huge fan of the former Barcelona shot-stopper. The duo enjoyed a trophy-laden four-year spell together at Camp Nou and are now set to reunite.

Valdes, who has made 28 appearances and kept eight clean sheets this season, is exactly the type of goalkeeper Guardiola wants at City. He has experience of playing in the England for Manchester United and Middlesbrough and is comfortable playing with the ball at his feet.
