Shaun Wright Phillips (L) in action for QPR with Swindon Town's Nathan Thompson
The R's are expected to make a number of signings this summer given that manager Ian Holloway will be looking to mould his own squad at Loftus Road.
Holloway will be hoping to strengthen a number of key areas, and it seems that bringing a new defender to Loftus Road is high on his list of priorities.
Sky Sports report that that Swindon Town defender Nathan Thompson is set to leave the City Ground this summer when his contract expires, and is wanted by QPR.

Thompson, 26, has come up through the ranks with Swindon, racking up nearly 200 appearances for the club, and was named club captain back in the summer of 2014.
The defender – who can play at centre back or right back – can leave on a free transfer this summer, and with Swindon relegated to League Two, he is set to walk away.

A move to QPR could be appealing to Thompson if Holloway can guarantee him first-team football, but four other clubs are also believed to be in the race for his signature.
Championship rivals Ipswich Town are allegedly keen, as are League One sides Charlton, newly-promoted Portsmouth and recently-relegated Rotherham United, with seemingly no chance of him playing in the fourth tier next season.
