Because the object of their affections, prolific Cologne striker Anthony Modeste, netted another double to help The Billy Goats to thrilling 4-3 win against Werder Bremen to increase their hopes of Europa League football next season.
A talismanic performance takes Modeste onto 25 Bundesliga goals in 32 games this season – easily the most prolific campaign of a hitherto respectable career spent mostly in Germany and France, plus that infamous barren loan spell at Blackburn Rovers.
Bild claimed last month that Cologne could be willing to part company with the uncapped Frenchman in the summer – although his reported £33 million price tag could make potential suitors think twice.

Blackburn flop turned Bundesliga superstar
However, now Southampton and West Brom have witnessed his talents first-hand, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that they could consider smashing their respective transfer records for Modeste this summer.
After all, the duo are in need of a prolific goalscorer if they are to push on next season, although the immediate impact made by Southampton’s January addition Manolo Gabbiadini (below) and the return to goal-scoring form of West Brom top scorer Salomon Rondon eases the concerns somewhat.
However, Modeste is one of Europe’s most complete forwards on current form, a powerful, physically imposing target man blessed with superb technical ability and an all-round goal-scorers’ skillset.
And he is certainly better equipped to make a fist of the Premier League this time around.
