Leeds United are tracking highly-rated Finnish defender Aapo Halme from HJK Helsinki, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

18-year-old Halme is highly-regarded in his homeland and has been likened to former Liverpool and Finland legend Sami Hyypia.

The 6ft,8in centre-back has impressed at HJK Helsinki since joining the club in January 2016 and he has played for Finland at Under-17 and Under-19 levels so far.

Halme's progress has not gone unnoticed among clubs across Europe, with the dominant central defender regarded as one of the most promising young defenders around.

Halme, who made 14 appearances last season for the club, scored his first goal for the club last month in the win over JJK last month.

Dutch giants Ajax, Bundesliga side Hoffenheim and Serie A outfit Sassuolo have all been keeping tabs on Halme and are weighing up moves for the teenager this summer.

Leeds scouts have watched Halme on several occasions and the powerful defender appears to have all the attributes to be a success in English football.

Leeds are looking to strengthen their squad this summer after missing out on the Championship play-offs and making a move for Halme could prove a smart deal as the defender is seen as a potential star in the making.
